The Backdoor

Spent the last 3 days coming in through the so called backdoor to the Sichuan province. After leaving Shangri-La, we steadily climbed the Tibetian Plateau, going over a pass 4900m high on the morning of day 3. Its was very cold last night in the town of Litang, needed to have an electric blanket on all night. In all, it took about 30 hours to make the journey as buses only ran during the day (night was too dangerous to drive) and the roads for the most part were in pretty bad condition. On the day I left Yunnan, a bus went over a ravine in the north of the province, killing 28 people!
The police did a pretty thorough search as we crossed the Yunnan-Suchuan border. There were 3 cops and for the 19 of us on board it took an hour and a half for the search. They picked through everyones bag except mine and another girls - I was pretty glad. While I have nothing strictly illegal in my bag, the quantity of some items could raise some questions. While searching the locals, they found 20" plus blades on three of the guys.
