Beer Chang

Here in Bangkok at the moment with a bad hangover. Called it a night at 7am thid morning and got up at 2. I can't think straight at all with the Chang hangovers. Its supposed to be 6.6%, but in reality, is goes up and down. Hoping to head east tomorrow, maybe head to an island or something.

Bridge over the River Kwai

Arrived here in Kanchanaburi two days ago. Stayed at the Little Creek Guesthouse for the first two nights, but have moved into town today as its a bit quite out there (5km from town).
Visited the Death Railway museum and the POW cemetery yesterday. We rented motorbikes for B150 and rode out and back to a waterfall 65km away. We managed to get them up to 120km which probably wasn't the safest course of action on Thai roads.

Khao San

Changed guesthouses to the Bella Bella today, it has a notice saying it admits no Israelis as they cause trouble, which is fine for me.
Have been drinking quite alot here over the past few nights and am feeling it most afternoons. Damn Chang. Haven't really been doing alot around the city this time as I did most of it on the last trip. One good aspect this time around is that the humidity is quite low, and 33 degrees doesn't feel too bad.

Back to the Northern Hemisphere

Arrived here in Bangkok last nite at about 9pm local time after a 12hr flight from Auckland. There seems to be alot more people here compared to last time I visited (5 years ago). The first 7 guesthouses I checked were full! The place I eventually got has alot of signs in Hebrew - i'm going to try and leave today.

Put it all on Black!

There wasn't much happening around Christchurch last nite so we decided to go to the casino. We set ourselves a limit of $20 each and hit the roulette table. An hour later I was $80 down and decided to go for broke and bought another $20 in chips (a nice even ton). With 4 chips left I managed to get on a lucky streak, won back my $100 and another $50 for good measure.
The lads are going back to Ireland today - here its a lovely 7 degrees there. I'm off to Thailand on Thursday and my brother Michael I heading there on Sunday nite.
Have had a couple from the Czech Rep. inquire about he car. I advertised that I wanted $900 but due to laziness, i'll probably come down.

Rafting

We were meant to rafting on the Rangitata river today but there has been alot of rain overnight. This had caused the water levels to rise too high and the river has become unraftable. Its a pity as we were waiting for this river as we passed the other rivers here. Off to Christchurch now.

Gone Fishing

Went fishing off the town of Moeraki today. We caught Blue Cod and Sea Perch, with each of us averaging about 20 - 25 fish. The boat trip cost us $80 each and we brought back about $200 worth of fish between us. Unfortunately we can't sell it so we gave most of it to the hostel owner, who brought us hunting last nite (only shot one hare but there were Wallaby and Deer out there). We had pretty good dinner here with the fish tonite too.

Destination Asia

Drove north here to Timaru today from Dunedin.
Booked flights from Christchurch to Bangkok, and Hong Kong to Frankfurt to Home today. It cost me nearly $1700. I wanted to go one way to Bangkok but the travel agent said I needed an onward ticket to get into Thailand, so I had to book the whole lot. I leave Christchurch on the 17th of January.

Southern Hospitality

Drove up here to Dunedin from Invercargill yesterday. The weather was a little on the wet side but there were some great views of the coast along the way.
We got chating to a guy on one of the beaches and it turned out that he had visited Waterford last year. He offered to show us his farm, so off we went. We thought he'd just give us a quick look around but he and his son spend an hour driving us around the farm in two utes. Afterwards they dished out the Speights (Pride of the South) and offered us a bed for the night. We declined (7 guys - we'd eat them out of house and home) and continued on our merry way to Dunedin.
Dunedin is a big University town but unfortunately the students are on their summer holidays at the moment and last night was like spending a night at Oxygen night club in Waterford - nuf said.

WOF

Went to get my car tested for its WOF (a less stringent form of our NCT) yesterday. I had to replace two tires ($140), repair some rust holes ($100) and mend my exhaust ($90). It passes the test this evening and is road worthy for another six months. Hopefully i'll sell it in Christchurch.

Milford Sound

Currently staying here at Te Anau. Drove down to Milford Sound today (120km). The drive is one of the most impressive i've ever done, once down there we had a 2 hour cruise out the fjord to the Tasman Sea and back again. The cliffs rise out of the sea up to hundreds of metres, one peak (Mitre Peak) rises straight up to over 1600m!
