Ploughin Away

Have a day off today. Had a quite week last week - only worked 89 hours! Still mainly ploughing, but have done some silage hauling and power harrowing also. I've started to dream about ploughs and most nights I wake up thinking i'm in a tractor thats about to crash and I can't find the clutch - can't be good mentally sitting in a tractor for 15 hours a day!
Yesterday I ploughed 10 hectares, averaging 40 secs a run - which meant that every 40 seconds I lifted up the plough, turned around and lowered the plough going in the opposite direction.

On a Goodin

Been flat out working for Goodin Contracting here for the last 10 days. Worked about 100hrs in the last week. Starting about 6am and finishing around 10/11pm. Its been raining here today so couldn't do any tractor driving, only did about 9 hrs; mainly machinery maintenance. Been plounging mostly (90% of my time is spent sitting in a tractor).
I'm staying in a little building (bedroom and toilet) near Tom and Lyn's home (Owners of Gooding Contracting). Lyn cooks me dinner (nice to have some home cooking at last) and the yard is only 20m away - my car hasn't moved since I got here.
The area around here is very scenic. It was formed when Mt. Taranaki erupted many moons ago.
I'm driving a 120hp John Deere 6620 with a 4 sod/furrow adjustable-width reversible Kverneland plough (a green tractor with a red plough for the city boys).
Back to the Ploughin...

White Mitsubishi

I bought myself an 1986 Mitsubishi Mirage yesterday at the Ellerslie Car market for $725. Its 1.5L and has 166,000 kms on the clock. I bought it from 2 Iraqi brothers from Hamilton who were selling it for their sister - you couldn't make up a story like that! It cost $50 to check the car's history and change the ownership details at the market, so I didn't bother with either - if I can't trust the boys, who can I trust?
I can get the car transferred into my name for $9.20 at the post office. I tried today but I was told I needed my passport as well as my driving license. Since I'm off down to New Plymouth tomorrow (7 hour drive), I may leave it 'till there, no point getting any speeding fines sent to me.
Its the first car that I officially own. I had one in Oz, but accidentally failed/forgot to change the registration into my name - police are still looking for one Eithne O'Reilly, after her car hitch reversed through someone's Hi-Ace van radiator in Alice Springs :)
Car insurance isn't compulsory here! In Australia, its included in your Registration but not here. It costs about $180 for three months 3rd party fire and theft insurance, but the excess is over $1000. I think I'll go without it for the minute. If I hit a Merc, its off to the airport for the first plane home!

I said i'd do something ...

. . . and I did.

Handed in my notice at the pub yesterday, leave on either Sunday or Monday.
Got a new job down near a town called Rahotu, which is in provence of Taranaki. Its on the central west coast, 40mins south of the city of New Plymouth. I'm going to work for a contractor for two months, working mainly in cultivating and silage. The pay is $12.80 an hour which is better that here. The good thing is that I get overtime (time and a half) after 8 hours, and the guy told me that there was plenty of hours to work. My 2 brothers and 4/5 other guys from home are coming out for 6 weeks in Decemeber, so this should be a good way to save some money.

I must try and find a car to buy now.

Sudoku

My mind rebels at stagnation. Give me problems, give me work, give me the most abstruse cryptogram, or the most intricate analysis, and I am in my own proper atmosphere. But I abhor the dull routine of existence. I crave for mental exaltation.

Kinda bored here at the moment. Going to do something before the end of the week.
